A New MoU to Extend GOSC Eastern Africa Alignment

 2024-02-06

Following the successful VizAfrica Summer School, the VizAfrica Conference 2024 began on February 5th. The theme of the conference is “Data Stewardship and Use for Scientific and Socio-economic Development”. GOSC CAS PI, Prof. Jianhui LI delivered a keynote speech on the essence and progress of the GOSC Initiative and shared insights on the cross-continental collaboration between China and Africa. Notably, this collaboration is exemplified by the first China and East Africa cloud federation testbed jointly supported by the CSTCloud and AOSP East Africa Node. This newly established GOSC East African testbed is developed based on the CSTCloud YunKun open-source software, aiming to promote regional interconnectivity and interoperability of Open Science infrastructure to enable SDG research.

Witnessed by Dr Abraham Korir, Principal Secretary of Foreign Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Kenya, Dr Tshiamo Motshegwa, Director of the African Open Science Platform (AOSP), together with other international and local attendees, GOSC International Programme Office (GOSC IPO) and African Institute for Capacity Development (AICAD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Under this collaborative framework, joint efforts highlight the co-development of Open Science infrastructures in support of SDG research in Africa and the co-organization of capacity-building workshops and science communication activities, etc. Looking ahead, we hope this China-Africa collaboration will pave the way for more open, inclusive, and sustained Open Science practices for mutual benefits (Xueting LI, Lili ZHANG).
