Briefings to the International Data Week 2022 (IDW 2022) GOSC sessions

 2022-06-28

The hybrid International Data Week 2022 (IDW 2022) has been launched during 20-23 June 2022, both online and onsite in Seoul, South Korea, with over nine hundred registered participants, as statistics show on the conference website, the Whova platform. Three breakout sessions have been launched by the Global Open Science Cloud Initiative (GOSC Initiative) Technical Infrastructure Working Group, the Policy & Legal Working Group, and the Data Interoperability Working Group, especially in conjunction with worldwide disciplinary case studies. Among all of them, members of the CSTCloud team have been closely engaged in the technical and policy sessions.

A number of key technical issues have been brought up to the table during the Technical Infrastructure session, including the secure and trusted AAI alignment, technical interoperability between open science clouds (OSCs), development of OSCs testbed, and validation in disciplinary showcases. Focused use cases involve talks in space science, astronomy, high-energy physics, etc. Besides, the Policy & Legal working group continued the dialogue during the All-hands meeting early this June, with detailed research progress and preliminary deliverables focusing on light-weight OSCs policy review on selected examples, exploration of OSCs alignment principles, and OSCs evaluations. Further, based on the case studies in SDG-13, space sciences, diffraction data publishing, priorities in OSCs policy studies have been highlighted as clear data rights definition and control, mature design and development of trust ecosystem, sustained metrics, and evaluation, as well as others.

“We are delighted to see this engagement between the GOSC Initiative and the IDW community, and much appreciated the feedback during these fruitful discussions”, says Jianhui Li, PI of the CAS GOSC Project. Looking forward, the GOSC Initiative will continue the dialogue between potential stakeholders to fully support the interconnectivity and interoperability of the OSCs.
