Recently, the International Programme Office of the Global Open Science Cloud Initiative (GOSC IPO) took part in the 5th session of the “Open Science: From the UNESCO Recommendation to Reality in Asia and the Pacific” series. Led by the UNESCO Jakarta office, this session features speakers from the Asia-Pacific region to explore practical methods for implementing open science principles, with a focus on unlocking the value of research data.
The session featured three case studies illustrating diverse approaches to open data practices across the Asia-Pacific region. GOSC IPO contributed to the discussion by sharing perspectives on data infrastructures. Drawing on experiences from CSTCloud and international partners, Dr. Lili Zhang of GOSC IPO presented their work on interoperable e-infrastructure solutions that serve as foundational enablers connecting these diverse national and domain-specific efforts. Discussions also addressed practical enablers of open science, including the role of open data pools and open-source software registries, as well as the evolving open license models used for LLMs, even in commercial AI applications.
GOSC IPO emphasized its ongoing efforts to foster collaboration among research e-infrastructures to turn open science principles into practical, interoperable solutions across the region. It looks forward to working with relevant stakeholders in the Asia-Pacific and beyond to continue advancing open science practices.
